Between about 700 A.D. and 1000 A.D. Arab Muslim armies conquered much of the Middle East. Starting at about 1150 A.D. the Arab dominance came to a halt. Much of the Arab's conquered land was re-captured by the Holy Roman Empire and armies from France and England.

The Ottoman Empire lasted from about 1300 to 1918. The Ottomans conquered almost all of the Middle East and were at their height under the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent (1520-1566). Eventually, the Ottoman Empire was destroyed by the British in 1918.
